SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Members of the Sioux Falls School Board say the District is being targeted by the legislature. That comes in reference to legislative efforts to make it easier for voters to refer school budget opt-outs to a public vote. All board member Mark Murren could say was, “I’m angry about the session.” Colleague Dawn Marie Johnson said Sioux Falls is repeatedly singled out by efforts to change school funding. She urged voters to take note and vote, saying it’s “the same characters (in the legislature) over and over attacking public schools and the integrity of what we provide.” Board President Nan Kelly said opt outs are necessary when the legislature fails to fund education at the required level in lean budget years like the one we’re in now.
