SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — There are fewer homeless people in Sioux Falls than a year ago. A January survey counted 605 homeless people in the city this year, compared to 625 a year ago. Sioux Falls Homelessness Coordinator Michelle Treasure says that may sound like a small improvement, but it represents great progress. It’s the first decrease in the number of homeless people in the city in five years. More importantly, it’s just one of several measures that’s trending in the right direction. Treasure credits non-profit and government agencies working together to meet the needs of the homeless by providing encouragement and direction to those in need as well as shelter.
