Pennington County, S.D. (KELO.com) – The U.S. Forest Service is using helicopters to battle the Bigly Fire in Pennington County. The Sheriff’s Office announced a public safety notice for the fire on Sunday, which has burned roughly 13 acres near Johnson Siding.
Containment is at 50 percent and firefighters are planning to remain on site for mop up operations until full containment is reached.
Forest Service officials closed off Victoria Lake and Taylor Ranch Roads on Saturday so the helicopters could drop buckets of water on the flames. The helicopters were collecting water from Sheridan Lake.
