SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — The South Dakota Department of Social Services and the Helpline Center are celebrating their fourth year of service with the 988 Line.
Helpline’s Janet Kitams says the line is intended to provide help for those experiencing an emotional crisis. “It’s important to draw attention to the phone number, just so people recognize that they can call, text or chat 988 24 hours a day with any type of mental health concern.”
As of July 2026, the 988 Lifeline has been around for 4 years while yesterday (Sept. 8) they recognized the day as 988 Day to increase awareness of the service and all it provides to South Dakotans.
Helpline has provided help to people from all of South Dakota’s 66 Counties.
