Oct 01 (Field Level Media) – Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson will not face any league punishment for the incident that occurred in Game 2 of the team’s first-round series against the Indiana Fever on Tuesday and will be eligible to play in the deciding game on Thursday.
According to reports, the WNBA determined that Wilson was in the court area — known as the player escape lane — when she confronted a fan in the second row of the stands behind the Fever basket.
The player escape lane is located adjacent to the stanchion and not in the stands and, after a review, game officials believed Wilson did not leave that area. Officials issued her a technical foul for “unsportsmanlike conduct,” but did not eject her from the game.
Aces reserves Kalani Brown and Kierstan Bell, who left the bench area, would also not be disciplined, according to the reports.
Wilson, the four-time WNBA Most Valuable Player, became involved with Fever forward Sophie Cunningham with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Aces trailing, 90-79.
The male fan rose and pointed at Wilson, who, in turn, approached and admonished him before teammates restrained her.
The Fever won the game 99-89, setting up the series-deciding Game 3.
A road victory by Indiana would dethrone the reigning WNBA champions. The winner advances to take on the winner of the Golden State-Dallas series, which is also tied at 1-all.
